Pembroke Wood Residents Association Meeting Minutes 13th Sept.
Water Quality
We have received reports about poor quality mains water in the last few weeks. We contacted the Cork County Council about this. The quality issue is one which is affecting everyone supplied from the Inniscarra Dam at the moment. There is a natural algal bloom on the lake – has been for the last few weeks – and activated carbon is being added at the water treatment works by Cork County Council to counteract its effects. The Water Services Section said that while the taste of the water may be tainted, it is not dangerous. They expect this situation to continue for another week or two.
Ramps
We are all aware of the current dangers of speeding within Pembroke Wood. There have been two recent accidents reported – one with a child on a bicycle and another with a child on a skateboard.
As residents, we all need to ensure that we drive slowly through Pembroke Wood and ask our visitors to do so also. We also need to explain the dangers of cycling and skateboarding on the roads to our children – especially on the main thoroughfares.
The Residents Association are currently seeking quotes to install ramps within Pembroke Wood to understand the cost involved. We will share the quotes with you and arrange a meeting to discuss.
Internal directional signage
We are planning to erect signage within Pembroke Wood which should have been completed by Manor Park Homes. An upfront risk assessment will be carried out to determine safe location of the signage prior to erection which will be shared with all residents on the Pembroke Wood Residents Association website when available.
Bonfire
Residents Association proposes to make Pembroke Wood a “Bonfire Free Zone” and to celebrate St. John’s night with a community event instead of a bonfire. We would welcome feedback and suggestions from all residents on this proposal. Please emailpembrokewood@gmail.com . We will review emails at next residents association meeting).
Completion of Estate
The bond secured from Manor Park Homes is due to expire this month. Residents Association are requesting that Cork County Council draws down the bond to complete the outstanding works and address water supply issues during cold weather within Pembroke Wood.
In Preparation for Winter
We all remember last winter – and the one before it. We are looking for sponsorship of gravel/salt bins from local businesses to securely store gravel/salt for the coming winter. Once we secure bins, we will request gravel/salt from the County Council. We will draft a plan for spreading gravel/salt at our next meeting. We welcome suggests from all residents –pembrokewood@gmail.com.

We welcomed Carmel Sharkey representing the apartment’s residents association at our meeting this evening.

Bonfires in Pembroke Wood
We discussed the issue of bonfires being held in Pembroke Wood each 23rd June and agreed it is not acceptable. We have approached the Town Council to hold an organised bonfire event. We will keep you updated.

We have requested Noblewood to try to save the fallen tree at the entrance to the estate.

Estate update 28/3/`11
We have been informed by a resident that her 5yr old son was approached by a lady, who he didn`t know, in a car and offered a bar of chocolate. This happened at 7pm towards the rear of the estate.
This resident is obviously very worried and wanted all residents to know.
Can we urge everyone to phone the Gardai if anything suspicious happens.
